A Little Friday Fun

Hey!

It's Friday!

So let's not talk about anything the least bit serious today.  OK?  OK!

But before we get started, I do need to get something off my chest.  I don't feel like I can go to the fun stuff if I don't make a confession first so here goes:

Hi.  My name is Lana and I am a boot camp drop-out.

It was supposed to be a three week camp and I made the first two weeks.

I hope you don't think less of me.

I'm not going to try and make a bunch of excuses.  Actually, I'd like to but they all sound kind of lame now that I think about it.

Let me just say this - Ryan and the big girls have been in Guatemala all week so it's just been me and the Bird at the house.  I needed all my energy focused on being the solo parent and getting up at 4:50 AM was not going to help in the energy department.

OK.  Now that I've got that off my chest, let me show you a couple things I pinned this week:

Here's a great list of fun "tools" to extend play-doh time.

We are working on getting Lily to blow.  She "blows" in, like when drinking through a straw but doesn't blow out, like making milk bubbles with said straw.  So we're working on it.  Thought this might be a fun way to see herself blowing, minus the cute little dragon part because she could care less about that.

fire breathing dragon craft - attaching streamers to the cup might encourage Lily to blow, a skill we're working on now

As part of Birdie Boot Camp, which starts this weekend (and hopefully I'll be more committed to this one!), we'll definitely be doing some painting with yogurt.  A snack and a craft in one?  A winner for sure!  Until she starts to eat regular paints, thinking they are yogurt paint... but we won't think about that.  I even have all natural food coloring that I spent a small fortune on so she won't be consuming funky dyes.

These magnetic paper dolls featuring your child as the doll look like so much fun but so much work for me.  And not knowing if the Bird will like it, it's time I'm not willing to spend.  But maybe you'd like to do it for your kiddo.  Or maybe you'd like to make it for mine.... Wouldn't that be fun??

This is an awesome idea!

And speaking of Pinterest, I have to pick on Jim, from Just a Lil Blog.  He is now officially on Pinterest and I thought you might like to see his first comments.  Sorry Jim, but I just can't resist.  And I think you'll be a good sport.... I  hope.

okay, i don't understand pinning. But i want the recipe and there's no recipe here. WHY PINTEREST? WHY???????

Jim W
oh my god. . . i just figured that part out. GO PINTEREST!!

HAHA! You're very dramatic, sir.

Last but not least, for those of you engaged in the IEP process, thought you might appreciate and get some information from Dennise Goldberg's article for Friendship Circle entitled, "Top Ten Most Ridiculous Things Heard At An IEP Meeting".

Now get out there and have a great weekend everyone!

  1. OH goodness!! Guatemala?! I think not having your boot camp buddy AND taking care of Lily solo is reason enough - actually not being able to get up is reason enough in my book...

Love the paper doll with your own kid thing too but again - like you - not enough time/energy to do that one - I'm thinking Karla should show us LM on this one!! (hee-hee)

The yogurt paint looks fun - I wonder how it sticks...

I will have to find Mr. Jim on Pinterest... Has he pinned any car engines or weights yet? You know, he's all manly like that... ;)

    1. I will admit that I didn't really miss that incredibly early alarm clock....

Yogurt paint was a partial success, I'd say. We do have a finished product and the look is kind of sticky/shiny/glossy looking. Lily ate more of it than she painted with... :)

Yes, look for Mr. Jim - he is kind of elusive right now but I bet you can track him down....

  2. hahaha. . . i just read Karen's comment on my manly interests. Cars. . . I'm so car-ignorant. But i'm super manly nonetheless.

So yeah, I'm on pinterest. I think I've pinned "Archer" and that blueberry breakfast cake thing so far.

And I'm going to share a revelation that is going to ROCK. YOUR. WORLD.

I still really don't understand Pinterest at all.

I have to experiment a little more with it.

On a related note, (references excluded, cause I just thought of it now) there was some google marketing thing making its way around the blogosphere this past week. . . something about how google+ is capturing and categorizing you based on your searches and interests and friends and etc. . . and you can check it to see what Google+ thinks of you in terms of categories and edit them if you think they're missing vital information, or delete them if you want to be "more mysterious".

So I looked, and Google thinks, based on my interests, that I'm a 34 - 40 year old woman.

    1. OK, Jim... I just got the SPD Blogger Network up on Pinterest and wrote an article on how it works (in principle). Maybe that will help? http://www.spdbloggernetwork.com/2012/02/01/were-on-pinterest/

At the very least, I've pinned a TON of activities that you can scoop up... so... Ta-Da: http://pinterest.com/spdbn/

And... yes... those comments Lana posted WERE dramatic ;-)

    2. I think of Pinterest this way - it's like looking at magazines and tearing out the pages of things that catch my eye. Simple.... I don't use it a whole lot for the "social network" aspect of it.

And Jim, now you've got me wondering about my "Google profile".... Maybe I will be a super-manly man to balance out your "womanliness". I'll let you know if I can figure it out.

  4. I NEED a little brain candy right now. Thank you, Lana.

I did NOT, however, need another trip to the craft store for magnet paper. Because THAT is what your little magnet doll craft is going to do to me! :-P

  5. These are really good ideas! My Gracie would love this stuff- AJ, well, he's kind of into plastic clothes hangers at the moment (sigh).

This stuff about Jim and pinterest is making me laugh. I caught Brian looking at my pinterest stuff the other night- he was probably wondering why I pin all these awesome looking recipes and then just make chicken nuggets and frozen pizzas night after night. :)

    1. Glad you liked them! Blowing out is such a strange skill to try to teach - it's hard to explain something so simple, isn't it? BTW - forgot to mention last time that your picture is quite lovely - nice colors....
