Maybe things like, "Don't put your feet on the table!"
How about pants? Are they optional at your supper table?
Or maybe you're a stickler for no iPad while eating.
We really do try to have a little class around here but I'm afraid our standards might be a bit beneath Peggy Post's.
What about you? What's mealtime like around your house?
Adorable! She looks so poised with her feet up! Our rule is no feet on the table but only because Mr. Clumsy will take a header and end up screaming "Train!" (translation - ouch) from the floor... Pants are definitely optional and if I said no eating on the iPad, the boy would have wasted away to nothing by now... ;)
ReplyDeleteOh, what I put up with now that I never would have from my big girls when they were younger!
Deletehahahahahaha!
ReplyDelete"No spitting in my face" is a pretty common one.
It was too hard to capture the no facial spitting rule on camera...
DeleteOur meal time looks like when they throw in steaks to half starved deranged lions at the zoo. Yeah, that about sums it up.
ReplyDeleteYou know, if the goal is to get fed, we get it done. It might not be all that pretty, but it's done.
DeleteFirst of all, she is so beautiful. Really truly, eye catching beautiful.
ReplyDeleteNow on to mealtimes. You know all that stuff about how we should have a family meal every night and sit at the table? Well, that's all nice for some families but it's not the way things roll in my house. One thing we have learned through Cam's eating disorder is that we just want him to eat. We don't care where he eats or what food groups he's eating from. Our focus at this point is just to make sure the kid gets food and keeps it in his system. We found that having him at the dinner table was extremely stressful for him and would react by crying, screaming, throwing food, and sometimes forced vomiting. We moved him to his own table in the living room where he does much better. We give SH the option to sit with him or join us. She usually chooses to eat with her brother. I know it's not the best sounding set up but right now it works and it works pretty well. We've talked about starting to move him back to the table for one meal a week and then work it back up from there but first, I think we need to get this next session of feeding therapy going before we do anything drastic. I tell ya, this eating/feeding disorder business is a real bear!
Thank you, Miss Allie! We often say her cuteness is the only reason we keep her around! :)
DeleteI think adjusting those expectations is one of the hardest parts of special needs parenting. So many things just don't look like we thought they would and letting go of those "Norman Rockwell moments" is difficult but we have to in order to not only survive, but to find that new kind of joy - the kind that fits our unique families.
K strips down the second she gets home. She would prefer to be in just underwear, but she's 8 and my husband isn't comfortable with that...ha. She is always without pants, though. And our dinner table...well, yeah. It's up and down, and jumping all around, and sometimes the TV is on if the one show K CANNOT miss is on...I am sure supernanny would die if she spent a day here ;)
