We're So Close.....

This is Lily's last week of kindergarten.

And I think my brain has already started summer vacation mode.

I can't seem to put together enough sentences to form a coherent blog post.  All I can think about at the moment is how great it felt to be a kid at this time of year.  The end of school and summer stretching before you.

So I thought I'd just put up a few of my favorite quotes about childhood.  Enjoy!

"Some things can only be understood when you're in a treehouse.  With a pile of warm chocolate chips cookies.  And a book."  Dr. SunWolf

"Think of what a better world it would be if we all - the whole world - had cookies and milk about three o'clock every afternoon and then lay down with our blankies for a nap."  Robert Fulghum

"I'd like to be a kid again but only because naps were insisted, twirling in circles was acceptable, and the only password I had to remember was open sesame."  Adar Burks

Let's jump in the sprinkler!

  1. Trips to the library! We would come home with an armful of books to read. We would go outside under the trees to read and let our imaginations roam.

Summer camps at church! What fun and all the memories we had from them.

Of course putting on our swimsuits and turning on the sprinkler to cool off as well as get the yard watered.

Homemade Ice Cream! Sitting on top of the bucket while my dad churned away til it was done. Yummy!

These are just a few of our favorite things of summer growing up.

  3. The essence of childhood, of course, is play, which my friends and I did endlessly on streets that we reluctantly shared with traffic.

  4. I loved the part in the quote "twirling in circles was acceptable." Recently, when my husband and I were at Home Depot, I saw a married couple intensely involved in selecting (and considering how to pay for) a new lawn mower. In the aisle beside them, their young daughter was happily twirling in circles in utter joy and contentment - with not a care in the world. It occurred to me how fun it would be if we could still twirl whenever we felt like it (without being toted off to the funny farm!). I think it would bless us and give us a moment of feeling truly carefree - refreshing us to face life's challenges. I may just try it today!
